On the Beloved Nepal Itihaas Ratna
I feel greatly honoured to write few words on the great Nepalese politician, the late Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi. As per the history of nature, many people are born on this earth and are also extinguished accordingly. Few of them can survive forever. Dr. Regmi is one of the very few great survivors of the soil in this century. He was the “fittest” to survive as per what Charles Darwin (1809-1882) as the “Father of the Theory of Evolution? perceived. The prognosis was that Dr. Regmi became the ?Great Son of Nepal?. His Karma placed him as a never setting star of the Nepalese sky.
Twenty First Century is the century of specialization. Many vow their lives to a particular field of cause and effect. Few can attribute as a multi-dimensional character. Aristotle (384B.C.-322 B.C.), the great Greek Philosopher, born in Macedonia, is also the “Father of Zoology”, a scientist. Albert Einstein (1879-1955), Man of the Twentieth Century (inventor of the fundamental theories in Physics like E=mc2 and ?Theory of Relativity’) also wrote political papers on socialism. He but rejected the post of the President of the State of Israel in 1948.
Similarly, Dr. Regmi, after 1960, rejected the post of the Prime Minister of Nepal several times. It was even before the late Ganesh Man Singh. Dr. Regmi chose the life of bodhisattva – the life of the enlightenment, what noted culture laureate Satya Mohan Joshi pragmatically glorifies. Dr. Regmi was a senior politician – a diehard soldier of peace, nonviolence and democracy. Every front-line political leader of Nepal acquired his inspiration. Than anything else, he was more a Gyaanveer – source of enlightenment of knowledge, karmaveer – a senior politician and Daanveer, an exemplary donor.
He wrote 17 books altogether but he never claimed himself to be a historian. He gave books like Medieval Nepal (four volumes) and Modern Nepal (two volumes). Considering the great demand in the international market, we are reprinting these books shortly. Now, we are determined to go on republishing his great works simultaneously. This book at your hand by Prof. Dr. Tulsi Ram Vaidya, presently, Vice-Chancellor of Lumbini Buddhist University, deserves a crest-value to expurgate Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi’s contribution not only as the first Nepalese historian to write Nepal’s history in a foreign language in English but also as a great historian of Nepal. Hence, considering the great contribution made by Dr. Regmi, together with the large section of Nepalese people and senior historians, I would like to stand to the side that let the late Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi be declared as the Nepal Itihaas Ratna – crest of the Nepalese historians posthumously.
Finally, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the concerned like: to Prof. Dr. T.R. Vaidya for his strenuous effort to write this precious book, to CNAS for its contribution in managing the research and above all to Mrs. Shanti Joshi, the first daughter from the late Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi for generously providing the fund for the project.
